Oral Syringes -- update adapt-a-caps, too

Oral Syringes

I stocked up at "the squirrel store" a couple of years ago after I conducted a local pharmacy search. The B-D ones with the rubber tip that I got from the hospital, just don't last as long as the ones with the blue plastic tip -- heck, those last forever -- if it weren't for the sticky zithromax, I'd usually end up throwing the syringes away when I couldn't read the letter anymore.

I measure up DS's meds every night us 12 oral syringes each time. Mainly I'm running out of the caps and with the addition of a new pink med twice a day, I thought it'd be nice to order up some amber ones.

Hmmm, you've probably done this too, but have you called the NICU and asked them where they come from, or where you can get them?

Or maybe the nurse at the clinic or pediatitian's could call and ask?

Katy's Hypertonic Saline comes in syringes (the pharmacy mixes it up) and we saved the empties for a while (2 doses a day!) because MY DH thinks he can use them in his man-cave for something....whatever! The tips we have screw on. Some are red and some are blue. Some are old and some are new. This one has a yellow star......oh never mind.

But we do continue to save some because they come in handy for pre-dosing Katy's liquid meds for the next day. We just don't have 12 of those a day. 12 ??? Yikes!

My son has a g-tube and we get some syringes from the same people that deliver his pediasure, feeding bags etc - I think it's called his home health care company. I had to get a prescription from his doctor for us to get them from that company though. We also get syringes everytime we get any liquid meds filled at the local Walgreen's pharmacy - I have to ask for them and they always throw a few extra in the bag for us. The biggest ones they have are the 3ml ones though and they aren't the screw on ends that we like. I think the blue screw on ends are called Luer-Loks and the ones that have a pointed end built into them are the Catheter Tips.
I have also been known to beg the nurses at the hospital for them when he is admitted and have also asked them to save his used ones (this is the point where the nurse looks at me like I'm nuts and goes and gets me a handful of wrapped syringes).
My husband has found a unique use for the 60 ml syringes - he bleeds his brakes on the motorcycle with them.
