OT...but need help

Hey everyone,
I know this is OT but I need some help finding info.

My cousin's wife just had her 3rd baby. She (the baby) didn't eat after she was born so they put her in PICU, put a feeding tube (in her nose) and tried to feed her but she threw up.

They found out the baby had a stroke or multiple strokes before she was born. They located a clot in her brain and the area of the brain it affected is going to die (per todays MRI results).

I have been searching on-line to see what the lasting effects will be for this baby girl. She is having seizures and they are with-holding food for a while (since all she does is throw up).

I've never heard of a baby having strokes and would like to educate myself but I'm having a hard time finding info. Any suggestions on websites or does anyone know of a baby having a stroke.

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks a million.

Here's a forum with a bunch of responses: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://my.americanheart.org/jiveforum/message.jspa?messageID=8462#8462">http://my.americanheart.org/ji...pa?messageID=8462#8462</a>

And a site I got from the forum that looks like it has a lot of information: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.pediatricstrokenetwork.com/">http://www.pediatricstrokenetwork.com/</a>

Hope that helps.

I have a friend who's baby had a stroke a day or two after being born. He's a precious 9 year old now. He does have lasting effects from the stroke though. He has difficulty with his speech and has very little function of his left arm. He walks well (after much therapy) and loves to ride horses (she has a velcro straps for his saddle) and is active in his school 4-H group. He is such a happy guy...just a joy, despite the obstacles he faces daily. My friend has never "pampered" him. They've gone through different physical therapies and such, but she treats him just as if he were normal.

I'm sorry your cousin and his wife are having to go through this. It's truly heartbreaking to see a baby go through so much. I will keep them in my prayers.

I don't have anything to add other than I'll be sure to keep this family in my prayers. What a trying situation that must be. My sister had seizures when she was an infant and it scared the poop out of me and my parents. She's fine now though. I hope the doctors for this little one will have wisdom and skill as they treat her.
