OT - Pancake Puffs

I went and got the pan. I also read that it is a similar concept to a Japanese dish. Octopus dumplings served with a dipping sauce specifically, Takoyaki. They use the same style pan.

Anyway I made them this AM and we loved them! I got the pan at Bed Bath and Beyond and then stopped at Trader Joe's and got their Buttermilk pancake mix plus a pear and some cream cheese. I sauteed the pears in some butter with cinnamon sugar and mixed it in the cream cheese. Griffin LOVES cream cheese. The pancakes were super simple to make, the pan worked really well! I thought it might stick or something but nope, they came out perfect the first time. The injector was a little cheesy but it worked too. Well, I know I'm gonna have fun thinking of stuff to fill em up with. How about some chocolate hazelnut spread? Good for me but Griffin doesn't have much of a sweet tooth. I'm excited to make a savory batch with ham, cheese and broccoli! Any other ideas out there?

Well, I bought one of these last week from Kmart. I am a bit disappointed with mine. Unless I'm doing something wrong, mine keeps sticking. I have used the pan twice. Both times I followed the instructions from the recipe book. The first time I used butter to coat the pan and the second time I used oil. I used medium heat the first time and low-med the second time. I couldnt' hardly get them out to turn them over. And I certainly couldn't get them clean using just water and a cloth. I used soap and a dish rag and still can't get all the stuff off of it.

Do you guys have any suggestions. I'm wondering if I got a bad pan. I noticed that Ratatosk said her pan was flat, but mine you can actually see the wells, but you can still sit it on the burner. I was looking forward to using it, but if it's going to keep sticking, there' not point in using it. What do you guys think: is it the cook or the pan (lol)?

I think it takes a little practice and patience. The first time I made them I was so stressed. Had a 4-year old who doesn't usually request food, DEMANDING his food. Argh!

Mine's cast iron. The bottom of the pan is flat. I've found that if I haven't let the pan heat up properly and then put the batter in there, that they stick. I've also ended up turning the temp down 'cuz medium on my stove seems to cook them too fast.

Also there's a brush that comes with it to put oil into the wells, I just dump a oil in there instead.
