I realized last night while doing Alyssa's treatment that her vest wasn't inflating all the way or compressing properly. I checked the tubing for a hole and I can't see one, but it does seem a bit worn in places. I checked the jacket for holes as well, but see none.
I called hill-rom today and they were WONDERFUL!! I can't say enough about this company. They overnighted us new tubes and a new jacket, and said that if the system isn't working with these new parts tomorrow to call and they will overnight a replacement machine while they get ours for repair.
So all that is good -- I'll just have to use my muscles tonight and tomorrow for treatments. But I do have a concern....
Alyssa has been coughing for about a week. Its very junky, but not very regular. Meaning she doesn't cough all the time, only when she laughs or irregularly through the day. It is not keeping her up at night, in fact she's been sleeping over 12 hours a night which is not like her at all.
I'm kind of wondering if the vest hasn't been working well for awhile now and that she's been getting lackluster airway clearance without my knowing. Would this be enough to start her getting a junky cough when her usual cough baseline is none??
I'm trying to hold off on antibiotics since this cough isn't really all that bad and I like to save the abx for when she really needs them. If she is still coughing at the end of the week or if it continues to increase instead of decrease I'll call the center.
