our vest is broken

I realized last night while doing Alyssa's treatment that her vest wasn't inflating all the way or compressing properly. I checked the tubing for a hole and I can't see one, but it does seem a bit worn in places. I checked the jacket for holes as well, but see none.

I called hill-rom today and they were WONDERFUL!! I can't say enough about this company. They overnighted us new tubes and a new jacket, and said that if the system isn't working with these new parts tomorrow to call and they will overnight a replacement machine while they get ours for repair.

So all that is good -- I'll just have to use my muscles tonight and tomorrow for treatments. But I do have a concern....

Alyssa has been coughing for about a week. Its very junky, but not very regular. Meaning she doesn't cough all the time, only when she laughs or irregularly through the day. It is not keeping her up at night, in fact she's been sleeping over 12 hours a night which is not like her at all.

I'm kind of wondering if the vest hasn't been working well for awhile now and that she's been getting lackluster airway clearance without my knowing. Would this be enough to start her getting a junky cough when her usual cough baseline is none??

I'm trying to hold off on antibiotics since this cough isn't really all that bad and I like to save the abx for when she really needs them. If she is still coughing at the end of the week or if it continues to increase instead of decrease I'll call the center.

That 's good that Hill-Rom was so quick to respond. So far; we've had good luck with their customer service. Is your machine working better now? Maggie has had a cough as well; though seems to be settling. I had to increase her VEST time and double up on her maintance antibiotic this week. It has been so wet; raining most everyday where we live; wondering if it's affecting her. Anyway, Maggie did seem tight and wheezy around the 4th and complained about it saying when she took a deep breathe it made her cough.. I think it's clearing out, holding my breath as we are going to visit family this weekend. Course, as I was worrying having a hard time getting in touch with the doc; Maggie sighs and say "mom it's just cause I have CF, jeez don't worry" Oh also, we 've gotten holes int hose tubes and what I've done wainting for them to ship them out is use duck tape to close up the hole; works pretty well. Sometimes the manual CPT is good cause you can focus on certain areas. Hope Alyssa feels well soon.

Everything is working great today. We got our shipment by noon and we've already done a treatment. I'm going to try to and get in four before bed tonight. *fingers crossed*

she's still coughing and slept 13 hours last night. I called the center and they are starting her on augmentin. Oh well -- I was hoping to avoid them, but if all it comes down to is a some oral abx, I can daeal.

We had the same problem with Reagans vest this week, only hers did have a visible hole where air was coming out. Hill-Rom was great!! They overnighted us a new vest and tubes as well.

I hope your little one is feeling better soon!!
