I took the Robitussin because I heard other CF women say that it worked for them, so I figured I would try it - and then I got pregnant shortly after as well.

It is said to be that the active ingredient in Robitussin, which is 'Guaifenesin', helps thin out the cervical mucus which is extra thick for CF women. I took it 3 times a day for 1 month.

The active ingredient in plain Robitussin and Mucinex is guaifenesin. Guaifenesin helps thin bronchial mucus and it is also thought to help thin cervical mucus (which can be too thick in women w/ CF). Some people prefer to take Robitussin though you have to drink a lot of it. I perfer to take the Mucinex pills since it is just a pill. Mucinex is kind of expensive though.

Generally you would start taking it a few days before you are supposed to ovulate and continue it till you know you have ovulated. So only a few days per cycle.
