Overheating

yup, both help a ton, sarah.

but the best thing is to keep out of the sun/heat.

those kids must sweat i can imagine, to the above posters, because i'm sure most have had sweat tests to diagnose CF, right?

but ya, i get overheated very easily myself and in addition to drinking gatorade and eating salt pills, i just plane stay out of the sun and heat.

it's not worth drying out my secretions in my lungs and risking an infection.

Amy - my son has had 8 sweat tests - 6 positive and 2 more where they couldn't collect enough sweat so they didn't finish the test. So he does sweat, but when it is hot outside you don't see sweat dripping off his forhead or anything to that degree. I would say he gets a tiny bit clammy at the most. And you might ask why he had 8 sweat tests done instead of one or two. It is because he had two done at a world renowned hospital by his GI doctor, but that hospital was not the cf certified clinic in that city. Then we had two done at that city's certified cf clinic because they didn't trust the other hospital's results. And then to top it off we decided to start going to the certified cf clinic that is in the city where we live and they required two more sweat tests because they didn't trust either of the other hospital's sweat tests.

My daughter with CF never had a sweat test. She was diagnosed prenatally, via genetic testing, so the doctor saw no need to do a sweat test.
