The name of the enema you describe is called Gastrographin. I have had it quite a few times in my life. It does fix you up wasting no time so that no weight loss and feeling crappy isn't prolonged. It is typically done in the Radiology dept. Not to bad as far as discomfort. It is just feeling really really full til you deposit. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies! WOW. I just got back from almost a week in the hospital due to that pesky obstruction I wrote about.
I ended up having to go to emerg via ambulance because the pain got so bad. I was in AGONY. I had meconium ileus when I was born so the surgeons were concerned about the big scars across my belly already in case they had to do surgery. They came really close, apparently! After five days of agony with major IV fluids, a huge naso-gastric HOSE to empty out the disgustingly huge amounts of bile and acid and rotten food in my gut, and a few litres of Golitely the obstruction ran its course.
I'm just so glad I didn't have to have surgery as I'm waiting for transplant and that would have taken me off the list temporarily. I was also REALLY lucky that, being nearly done a 3 week course of antibiotics, my chest didn't flare up from all of the lying around writhing in agony I did for 5 days. I couldn't take any meds orally for awhile either.
Geeze, I've been spending more time in the hospital than out, lately.

So what do you guys recommend for a routine kind of laxative therapy, as I still have to be on pain meds on a regular basis? (I'm going to be extremely careful with what I eat now though...maybe no more huge amounts of popcorn on an empty stomach, for example).
