each of mine have lasted for different amounts of time. Sometimes it's only a week and sometimes its weeks to a month.
I have never been on prednisone so i dont know what effect that would have on pleurisy. Ibuprofen i can't take because of hemoptysis problems so i certainly understand your reluctance to take it. I just take tylenol ands wait it out. I hope you get relief soon <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My first year with recurrent pleurisy it used to last 3-7 days and go away on it's own with lots of ibuprofen.

The next year, it always resulted in fevers and infections...BEWARE of reduced mucus clearance from pain. I didn't "get it" before my bronchiectasis dx and I would huddle and pant and limit my painkillers. (Actually, I am pretty sure it contributed significantly to the bronchiectasis.) Now I double the mucus clearance, take the painkillers, try to force the coughs, take super hot baths. Sometimes you end up on abs anyway but you have to try...

You can check with your doctor on this, but when I was on blood thinners, they said no ibuprofen because it can mess with the Coumadin, making blood more thin. Of course, aspirin does the same thing.
I could only take a dow-dose Tylenol.
