Pancreatic sufficiency and constipation.

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with being pancreatic sufficient and bowel issues. Constipation to be precise!

Sophie has been having a bit of trouble and just trying to work out if it is CF related or feed related (she is fed via mic-key button only)

Any thoughts or feedback would be well received.

YES! I am pancreatic sufficient, but have had problems w/ constipation pretty much my entire life. Before being dx w/ CF I would get so stopped up and in so much pain I went to the ER a few times, pretty sure I was going to die or something.

My GI doctor gave me the OK to take miralax twice a day, but for the past few years I'm OK just taking it once a day. If I go too long without it, I will get stopped up - despite eating a high fiber diet.

Hope Sophie gets to feeling better soon <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

I have these troubles too. I NEVER use to be like this and have always been on Enzymes but as of the last couple years I am a daily Miralax user or else it hurts so bad to go. I can go but sooooooo hard to go.... I have also noticed cheese tends to aggrevate the problem so my beloved cheese is eaten very little. My doc said even though the enzymes help us they also can constipate you, he said just take Miralax daily and keep it moving. He also said I can add Mineral Oil to keep it "lubed up" So maybe you can incorporate that during harder times.

Good Luck it stinks, literally HA HA LOL!

I am also pancreatic sufficient and have had issues with constipation on and off for years. At one point it actually got so bad I had to stay out of school for about a week because of the pain. Miralax is very good, but sometimes can take a day or so to "kick in".

Hello thank you all so much for your replies.

Well we finally got Soph xrayed and no blockage thankfully but full to the brim with poop, so they have started her on a regime of movicol (I think is your equivalent to miralax).
Our CF doctors have always focused on her chest and I never realised being PS could still cause bowel problems unless her function was reducing.

Thank you all again. Hopefully things will start moving soon.
