PANIC ATTACKS AGAIN

About 5 years ago I was having severe panic attacks. The doc put me on Zoloft. I was on it for about a year and have had no problems with panic attacks again until recently.

I think everything going on with the kids health has got me totally stressed out. (Plus a teenage driver.... now that is stress!!..... lol)

I talked to the doc about it today and he put me back on Zoloft. I don't mind this seeing I have no side affects with the Zoloft.

He also prescribed me Ativan. This makes me a little nervous. He said to take it if a panic attack starts. I don't like that this is a medication that you can easily become addicted to.

I can not even take OTC sleep aids because they will make me sleep for DAYS!

Does anyone else take Ativan? Does it have lingering side affects?

Maybe I should take one tonight just to see how it will makes me feel.

Thanks

My hubby takes Ativan (.5 mg). He used to take Klonopin (1 mg). In his opinion, Ativan doesn't give him the "hangover" that klonopin did.
Another one to try is Seroquel. That is non-addictive, I was told by one of my docs.

The bottom line is: if you need it, take it. And, when you truly need them, they simply calm the anxiety verses just making you sleepy. If you are taking one that is too powerful a mg, then it might make you sleepy, so you may need to play with the dosage and find what works best for your anxiety level.

It would be a good idea to try one in the evening to see how it truly affects you.

Best wishes - may your mind be calm

I had good short-term treatment with Ativan. I was able to come off it without any problems. It sure did help me through the rough patches with PTSD.
