This is in reply to the original post. I've got CF, am 25, and my daughter is almost 2 1/2. She's the light of my life also. I found that my pregnancy was also very healthy. My PFT's also increased during. I've misspoken a few times here on the boards about my PFT's. They are in the mid-80's FEV1 (I mistook the FVC for the FEV1 previously, but I've got it straight now - oops). My sugars were monitored closely because I'd had diabetic reactions to some meds in the past, but I had no trouble at all. Thank the Lord. I saw a high-risk OB at first, but was unhappy with that. My particular situation (with Medicaid) did not allow me to choose one single doctor but tossed me into a pool of residents. I was not getting very good care and they insisted upon treating me like a paragraph from a text-book rather than as a person with an individual case of CF. So, after weighing the pros and cons and determining my pregnancy to be very healthy and not risky, we found a midwife. She was great and did a lot of research. I continued to keep very close tabs with both the OB and my CF doc until I delivered. I went into labor 2 weeks past due date (which was never very certain) and delivered at home without complication. It was awesome. This is by no means for everyone, but it was perfect for us.
Being a mom has made me create new solutions to old problems and restructured my priorities. One of my biggest struggles was with my doctors when it came to breastfeeding. They didn't like it. But, baby is healthy and I've stayed healthy. Of course, if I had gotten really ill or been unable to maintain weight I'd have had to rethink it. I think it was actually easier to parent an infant as a mom with CF than it is to parent a toddler. She's no longer content to just sit while I do my vest and nebs. That's where good videos have come in handy. I put on a 30 min. one and that covers exactly the length of my vest tx. I've also incorporated brisk walks into my therapy since I can plop her into the stroller and go. We'll walk briskly a good length to a nice park, then she'll play, then we get another brisk walk home. This was a problem when I had a round of IV's because the sweat I worked up walking loosed the op-site tape and I had leaking/gapping. the rest of the time it seems ok. Walking was something I did a lot of when pregnant. I'd walk (albeit, not briskly) for about an hour each afternoon. When it got warm, I walked in the mall or other large places with AC.
Sorry. I didn't start out to write so much. I guess I didn't realize how much I like to talk about life as mom or how much it's changed me.
