Pari Nebulizer

We have a Pari pro neb ultra II. It seems when we first got it, the .63ml ampule of Xopenex would take about 15 minutes to "burn" up, but now it is taking at LEAST 1/2 hour!! Sometimes, I will check the cup and the entire thing still seems to be in there, like nothing has gotten administered.

I was advised it could be because the cup is not clean and the meds are stuck in the air delivery part, but I cleaned it with hot water and used a little brush to clean it out really well.

I was thinking about changing the cup and line early (since they are supposed to be good until Dec.) to see if that works, but I don't want to waste it. I am partially afraid that the compressor may be bad or something.

How long does it normally take you to do a .63ampule?

Chances are the nebulizer cup has lime buildup from the calcium in your water. You can't just wash it off. You have to soak it in white vinegar. I add a few ounces of the vinegar to a small pot of water, bring to a boil, then boil another 5 minutes, then let it sit.

I would try a new Pari neb set; see if it takes that long to neb. If it does; it is likely the compressor causing the problem. If you think it's the compressor; call Pari and they should ship you a new one. This has happened to us a few times; since my daughter does 6 nebs a day; every day the compressor does not last as long as it should. I also have a cheap compressor at home for back up. May be something to think about to have an extra compressor, especially with kids; never know when they are going to spill a cup of juice into it<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> Good luck
