Growing up my parents only let me have fish or hermet crabs. I was tested for allergies and was found to be allergic to every darn animal. When I got married we got a dog. After 2 years I got worried that maybe a dog wouldnt be good for my health after talking to people so I gave Jax to a friend. I can tell you that those 2 weeks without him were the worst of my life. Thankfully she was so sweet and saw that I was a mess without him and she said that it wouldnt work out with her, but I know she just did that because she knew how much he means to me. Now jax is 7 and I cant imagine my life without him. He is the one who puts a smile on my face everyday. Since then when I married my second husband we got 2 boxers and these 4 legged kids are my life. I think everyone needs to weigh if they think that an animal is really hurting their health or not. Thankfully in my case they didnt, no they are not the best thing for my health but they give me a happiness in life that can be replaced by nothing else.

I just got married and moved in w/ my husband and his two cats. Since then, my lung function has been down (but there are a whole list of possible factors for that). I'm thinking though, that it makes sense to get tested for allergies, just so I can be sure if, or if not, the cats are causing me problems.

For those that have been tested... what does allergy testing involve? Did you have to go see an allergist to do it?

Thanks,
Kris

We have a small dog, he is a Shippoo =o] [a poodle and shitzu mix] He is also hypoalergenic and does not shed at all..I think it's the poodle in him. My husband has had no problems with him....I know there are other types of dogs that are shed free, maybe that is a good option.

i have a hypoallergenic dog and he doesn't bother me. i make sure to wash him once a month so that any dirt or anything that may irritate me comes off of him. i don't think i could ever get rid of him though, he's my buddy when i get sick.

I totally agree our dog is like another child......
