WHat is PGD? I am not sure on this one. Me and my wife are currently going through IVF (see other post) Waiting on pregnancy test. We are lucky enough my Wife's great insuracne blue cross and blue shield covers 90% of all ivf procedure and even 90% of my mesa precedure they covered everything right down to the sperm analysis and even all the medication. We can have 4 complete IVF cycles in a lifetime. I know we were very lucky unfortunetly our insurance changes in November so here's to hoping!!!

Plucky- PGD stands for PreImplantation Genetic Diagnosis.

My husband and I are both CF carriers and have a two year old son with CF, Double DeltaF508. We did not want to take the 25% chance with another baby. SO we underwent IVF with PGD. We make embryos and then those embryos are tested for CF by taking a cell/cells from them. Then only ones without CF are implanted back in the mother.

I had a son two months ago who is free of CF thanks to this procedure. Best of luck with your procedure. I pray my son can father children someday with the help of technology.

Mneville,
Ah That explains it we were given that option but we had so few eggs fertilize we didn't want to risk none of them making it to day 5 for that. By time your son grows up I can't imagine were technology will be. For an upside my fertility clinic has had a 100% sucess rate at getting sperm from people via MESA and they have done many with CF so here's to hoping <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
