PICC placement

I have had that happen on both arms once when a home infusion nurse came to place a midline. She said she kept hitting a valve and could not get it to thread. I know dehydration can def. play a role in getting piccs or even peripherals in. The vein isnt "plumped" up enough. My one homecare nurse used to tell me to drink a full glass of water and then shower right before she got here to help plump up the veins. I am surprised that they didnt just put in a regular peripheral for the time being. I hope Monday goes better for you.

I am so glad I had this forum to come to. I really thought they were maybe making up the whole dehydrated part to make me feel better. That really does make perfect sense though. Why on earth would you be able to get a good blood return and have the veins look good and not be able to make it happen. Remember...I have only ever had three.

Diane they did not do a peripheral because they were also having a hard time getting my dang antibiotic. So they have to scrap the cocktail and I wait til Monday anyway. This was a "my choice" kind of tune-up. So it was not a big rush.
