If I stay with the children during the activity, I do not write it down. If I leave them, then I write it down. I also make a note that cystic fibrosis should not be a factor in the activity they are playing.
Sharon, mom of Sophia, 6 and Jack, 4 both with cf

i've went back and forth on forms over the years, some not listing CF, cause it really doesn't change anything, and like u said, I stayed at the practices. Then with other sports like football, where he has big issues with dehydration, I write it down but still have to talk to the coach about CF when things arise like "why he is still bringing gatorade to practice when he told all the boys to bring only water"

I don't really see any need for listing it.....If something happened when I was not there, like a broken bone or even something more serious, I don't see what not knowing he was on pulmozyme and creon would change the treatment. Plus our at our childrens hospital, they would immediately pull up his name in the computer and see his medical info.....And the older he gets I know he can speak up about it if he is having a problem or needs to disclose it. He was doing his eflow in the car on the way to a basketball game the other day and not done with it when we got there, and would not go in while still doing it.......at 11 he is I thing not wanting others to know and not look different, cause he is the same as others in his eyes.

I don't see any reason to mention it especially if you feel he's going to be discriminated against if it's listed on the forms. Most of the men that coach those sports (your husband not included!!!) can be pretty competetive and probably have no idea what CF, CP or a hangnail for that matter is. You could always mention it at a later time after you get to know the coach. I'd at least wait until after the "draft".

This was my thought exactly. If anything is going to happen, it will probably be some kind of sports injury, so CF related meds will likely be irrelevant. If he gets sick lung-wise at practice.. well, he probably wouldn't be at practice if he was sick anyway, right?

The only thing I'd consider putting down is Insulin if he had CFRD which I'm pretty sure he does not.

When he gets older and you aren't sticking around for every practice, he can have one of those Medical ID bracelet things, or carry a little card in his wallet with his current meds/information. That way noone needs to know beforehand, but if something does happen, the info is there.
