We use something called a "Peak Flow Meter." It can help predict a sickness coming on. The kids take a deep breath and blow out as hard as they can into the meter, and you read the results. You have to track them for a while, doing it the same time every day and night, to see what their "norm" is.
Once you know what the "norm" is, then you and the doctor figure out where the green (Good, no problems), yellow (caution, take extra nebulizers, vest treatments, etc), and red zones (call doctor if meds to bring them out of the red zone) are.
It is also helpful for predicting asthma attacks.
I love it. Like I said, it takes a little while for the kids to develop their "norm." They have to get used to blowing the same way every time so they give good readings.
