B's mommy, REEEEEELAAAAX.
You have every right to be uptight, but the main thing is to stay calm, for your child. They pick up on everything we do and our attitude towards adversity is how they learn to handle adversity.
The day after my daughter had her first sweat test, I did the same thing, I called the hospital looking for answers because I was nautious from anticipation. The nurse is not qualified to give that information out, whether it is positive or not. Doctors are always busy, as you know, so you will probably get a call after lunchbreak or at the end of the day. If your child's test is positive, not much is going to happen between now and 5:00. Keep yourself distracted, and eventually they will call you. Sweat test results are usually pretty quick, so if you don't get a call today, being Friday, you're probably allright.
As for children looking healthy, that describes my daughter to a T. She seemed to always present as an asthmatic, runny nose, cough going to chest, ate very well (which was because of her insufficient pancreas, she managed to keep up by eating alot), normal weight and very vivacious and energetic. She keeps her two brothers hopping. In fact her CF doc asked me how I ever suspected there was a problem.
That's the kind of stuff only a mother notices. She never had normal bowel movements, constant snot problems, a bit of a distended belly, very dry skin, salty taste when kissed, always wants to drink, sweats more than normal. She had all the classic signs except a failure to thrive, so we were always brushed off. I didn't realize she fell into this category until I educated myself a bit. My advice would be to write down a list of the little things that you never thought of, they might add up to something more.

My first daughter did not look picture perfect healthy prior to dx of CF. But she was very smart and active but just a little small and thin. She wasn't a happy baby though by no means. It was very difficult being a first time mom, because I felt like I was doing things all wrong! I just couldn't understand what was going on!My second one was dx at 2 weeks, so I can't really count her. She started her treatments early and didn't suffer a lot of the un-treated symptoms.

I know it's hard, but hang in there!

I am getting ready to go for lunch but feel like I can't eat. I'll check back after lunch and see if you've heard anything. Hopefuly we will both know soon.

The thing that has me so upset is because I have a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. I never told my husband this either. My last pregnancy (miscarraige 10/26) never felt right to me either. My first ultrasound showed the baby as younger than we thought. I woke up bleeding one morning and the doctor said the baby stopped growing and was probably as old as we originally thought. It was weird because I never felt sure the whole 3 months I was pregnant. I just pray that this time the feeling is wrong.

If it helps any, both times I received my daughters positive dx, it did come from the CF nurse, not the doctor.

Just wanted to say my son had a sweat test because my daughter has CF. The results were given to me by our ped just a few hours after the sweat test. His sweat test was negative and he does not have CF. I told the doctor that i wanted to know the results ASAP and they told me the results are given the same day, for the very reason you are describing, incredible worry and anxiety. So, I see nothing wrong with calling the office again to find out the results. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Our daughter looks completely healthy, if you didn't know you'd never guess.
She doesn't caugh at all, she is hardly ever sick. But she is pancreatic insufficient, and needs to take enzymes when she eats.
The same thing happened to us with the sweat test, they said we'll call you tomorrow with the results. So we thought OK we'll know by noon! NO they called us at 5:30pm. We were sooo mad, they let us stew all day. Talk about spoiling someones evening. However, deep down I allready knew.

I called her back and she said the report wasn't ready so we'll have to wait until monday. She had to call children's hospital for the results so I can't blame her. Now I have to wait all weekend.

My son doesn't really have poop problems other than a bout of diarrhea that lasted 2 weeks (a month ago) and then constipation for another 2 weeks or so. He goes now but sometimes he looks like he is having a hard time. There aren't any food particles in it unless of course he ate corn. We have noticed that his stomach looks really big. His pediatrician has never seemed to worry about it but my husband and I have.

I kind of feel like I am accepting it and looking at all the things about him that fit, low weight (24 lbs), distended stomach, runny nose, and RSV. BUT then I feel like it can't be. I guess I'll just have to wait until monday.

I am SO, SO SORRY that you have to wait. It totally sucks - we went through something very similar. This is one of those times where I just wish I could make some calls and get the stinkin' answer for you!!!!

BTW, our pediatrician, upon learning of our diagnosis, said, "Well she's the healthiest CF kid I've ever seen". Whatever - is that supposed to make me feel better???

I Hope and Pray that you find the answers you need, CF or not. Now go away and don't worry, read this forum, or any other stuff about CF, because it might drive you a little berserk. Its too late for me but save yourself!!

Seriously, hugs and thoughts are with you.
