I live in New Brunswick, Canada and my CF clinic is basically the Asthma clinic. It's clean enough, but it is my doctor I am not to keen about. He once had me hospitalized twice in the same year for having Pneumonia (sp?). When he tried to hospitalize me the third time, he claimed that there was nothing else here they could do, and made an appointment with the CF clinic up in Halifax.
I drove all the way up there and the Doctor there took one look at me and said there was no way I was sick. Upon further review of my x-rays and CT scan, he came to the conclusion that it was Asthma I had, along with my CF. He has no idea how my Doctor continuously overlooked it.

Ever since, my Doctor does not seem to actually care about my overall health. He makes me get x-rays every time I go in ( around every 3 months), and then does not even look at them. Every clinic it is a battle to "remind" him to go check the x-rays.

Nothing is every in order at my clinic, and we end up spending hours upon hours in the waiting room while he does his "routine jog" as we like to call it. He basically just walks around, and around for no reason, keeping everyone waiting.

I'm not the only one who has had this problem with him. I've spoken to other patients and we are all experiencing the same problem. Unfortunately there is no other clinic anywhere near us.

I'm actually supposed to be moved into the Adult Clinic already, but because my weight and PFT's went down he decided he wanted to keep seeing me until I had everything back to normal. I got my weight back up, but he never scheduled another PFT to see how that went, so I am still with him. This is also a stunt he has pulled on all the other patients waiting to move into the CF clinic. They are ready to take us, but he does not want to let us go. I can understand his reasoning due to the fact that he has sen us since we where young, but it's getting a bit on the ridiculous side.

As for cleanliness, I know there has been times hat he has set up appointments for me, and had me scheduled in at the same time as someone carrying B.Cepacia (did I say/spell that one correctly?), which is contagious. Luckily, I never got it from her because my mother recognized her and her mother and we left immediately.

Hi there,

I got to Children's Hospital in Boston. I am followed by their adult doctor though, but they obviously have a bunch of peds CF doctors there. I live in western Mass and did not feel confident with Springfield's or Worcester's CF clinics, so I head to Boston for all my appointments.

They treat everyone like they've got the worst bugs possible. It's a good way to be! So when you arrive there is no waiting room and they just take your name and wisk you away to an exam room right away. They even bring the PFT machine to your room. They will not send you for an x-ray unless you're the only CFer in the x-ray waiting room. They disinfect after a CFer touches anything. Anyone who comes in the room is gowned and gloved (contact precautions).

I am honestly not used to their protocol, but I have no problem with it. The clinic I used to go to in Cleveland just separates the cepacia from non-cepacia patients (appointments on different days).

I have tried Mass General and was not pleased with the care I got there - although, I was seeing the adult doctor, which would not be the doctor in your case for your child. So they might have some good peds doctors at MGH.

I think it's important to have a clinic that's up-to-date with the newest things and doesn't just treat everyone the same. I guess you have to find the right "fit" for you. But if you're not happy in Worcester, I would suggest trying another clinic and seeing if you like something else. No reason to stay somewhere where you're not satisfied. Heck, see what's out there. You're not obligated to stay in one place.

Good luck!
