Pneumonia vaccine

I think that is so stupid (not you, just the logic in it). Don't you think they would benefit more by giving out the vaccines for people at risk...then taking a chance and having them get pneumonia? What is the cost of a vaccine? And what is the cost of a two week + stay at a hospital, ya know?

Who makes these dumb laws anyways?

I have actually heard both myself. I think the clinic here used to give them every 5 years or so, but then the guidelines changed and were told that if you had one in your lifetime, that was sufficient. Hope you find out a definite answer.

liz , joe had his flu jab on saturday just gone , the nurse said he was done with the pnuemonia jab as he had it last year. this is the uk mind.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I agree 100%, Kiel. Many insurnace companies in the US won't pay for a med that will prevent hospitalization (without a lot of prior auth paperwork), when in reality, the cost of the med is so small compared to a hospitalization!!!! it's amazing how short-sighted inurance companies/governments can be!

Who really knows. I'll see that my nurse gives me the vaccine as well, and I suppose we won't have to worry about it for awhile afterwards. Someone also told me that with a newer vaccine coming out, that you only need it once in your life, but I haven't had one for a good 6 or 7 years. So maybe I had the old one? I'm sure I'll find out when I go in for my flu shot.
