Pneumonia

It was the ER doc that looked at it - I need to request it be sent to clinic. I thought that the regular docs just sometimes looked at "normal CF xrays" and thought that it was worse than it was....not better (if that makes sense).

I called the CF doc last night after the hospital, and he didn't seem too concerned with the 92% Said to keep them updated and if it goes on "too long" that he would need to come in.

They put him on augmentin for the ear infection - forgot to mention that to the CF doc but will probably be calling tomorrow since nothing seems to be changing.

Found it odd that he's only running a mid-grade fever, and sometimes will go 24hrs without it (without tylenol). I always thought that with ear infections it was a high grade fever that was always present??

Augmentin (as long as he takes it long enough) might be a good med to kick something like bronchitis as well as the ear infection. When it comes to fever; all I can say is that from our experience my kids varied when it comes to all kinds of infections. My 10yr old (no cf) always runs hot and tends to shoot up to 103 or 104* with almost any kind of infection or bug, whereas Emily (my CF kid) tends to have a lower-grade fever but it will go on and on for days and it will wipe her out much more than the high one does for my son. The low fever has led to doctors really disregarding serious illnesses for her, and that drives me NUTS, because fever is not the only tell-all symptom, you know?

It still bugs me about the 92% o2. Maybe because when I had a nasty post-flu bronchitis-turned-pneumonia 4yrs ago, when I dragged myself to the dr I had an o2 level of 91% and I felt SO SICK. I had no energy and just walking around the house left me feeling like I'd been running up and down stairs (not to mention awful cough and all that; and I didn't have a high fever either.) So I am looking at that adorable picture you have and really empathizing with your son right now and picturing him feeling really unwell. But, if no one is worrying I have to allow for the possibility that I am totally overreacting and he's not that bad after all. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

I figured his CF dr would be the best bet to see the xray because he could compare it to baseline ones he's had done at clinic and be able to better determine if there is anything of concern.

Augmentin is a drug that Emily's staph is sensitive to and her cf drs really wanted to give it to her when she had a bad exacerbation last spring; unfortunately she can't tolerate it (adverse reaction due to other health concerns.) When I looked it up quick earlier it seems effective for a wide range of infections. So hopefully it does the trick for Parker and knocks out the cough as well as the ear infection.
