Yes, I could breathe better, through my nose - which helped when it comes to sleeping. And, I quit having those danged sinus headaches everyday too! man those were painful - bending over made my head throb.
My doctors would wait until I couldn't stand them any longer, because they said that removing them just encourages them to grow back, which it did - but until they grew back, I was headache free. I've had them removed 3-4 times, but the last time was about 20 yrs ago. I know.
Also, they grow as an allergic response - so I have to ask if you are getting allergy shots or taking allergy med/nose sprays to help the symptoms? When I was younger I didn't have the sneezing/itchy eyes etc, I had the polyps. Now it's reversed - I have the itchy sneezing, but little to no polyps.
As for smell and taste:
I was able to smell and taste more after surgery.....but, I've always had problems so, I asked my dr if he thought my surgeries caused my hard-of-smelling/tasting problems. He said no. He said that CFer's have that problem in general, with or without surgery.
In fact, I have a funny story to tell about smelling after surgery:
One day at home, after surgery I was walking around the house smelling stuff. I grabbed a tube of Crazy Glue and smelled it. The fumes went up my nose and I screamed hysterically.... I thought the glue itself had gone up my nose and everything was going to be stuck together. My parents had to explain that it was just the fumes!!!
Back to the polyps: if they cause you sleeping problems or headaches on a regular basis, I would consider removing them. I wonder why your dr is so against it?
