Has anything ever been cured? I know diseases have been eradicated, prevented and treated effectively - but has any disease ever been cured? As in, you have it and now you don't?? I can't think of any.</end quote></div>

No Polio has NOT been cured. We have erradicated it in the western hemisphere, thanks to vaccination, but if a person in the world contracts polio, there is no CURE.

Whadd'ya all mean, there's no cure for any disease?? You mean ALL diseases are incurable? I don't agree with any of that. Isn't eradication, prevention and effective treatment the same as cure at least in practical terms? I mean, I had a cold last month, but now I'm cured. Maybe I get another cold tomorrow, but that's not gonna be the same cold. Oh and I had warts. They never came back. Am I not cured? I need you to define the word cure, I think we're not on the same page. Please enlighten me!

My idea of cure agrees with no. 1 and 2 and maybe 3 below:

cure (kyr)
n.
1. Restoration of health; recovery from disease.
2. A method or course of medical treatment used to restore health.
3. An agent, such as a drug, that restores health; a remedy.
4. Something that corrects or relieves a harmful or disturbing situation: The cats proved to be a good cure for our mouse problem.
5. Ecclesiastical Spiritual charge or care, as of a priest for a congregation.
6. The office or duties of a curate.
7. The act or process of preserving a product.

Hi,

Most infectious diseases can be cured now, since discovery of antibiotics no so long ago (around 1940 I think???). Before antibiotic era you would die of neumonia or sometime even after a tonsils infections ,now those diseases are usually cured and not much problem for healthy people. The same with TB etc. I can think also of diseases cured by surgery such as apendicitis (you would die of it before), some cardiac conditions etc. Also some types of cancer can be cured and have a normal life spam.
So I guess, yes I think medicine has go a long way and just as tb was thought to be a deadly disease last century and they though it was impossible to be cured there will be a cured for cf some day. I think it will be kind of a diabetes type of cure, you will have to take something your whole life to be healthy, but that is enough for me <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
