Pre-School

Hi All,
This is my first post and I am hoping to get your thoughts. My daughter will be 2 next month and we are considering pre-school for her in the fall. We are thinking two days a week for a total of 6 hours. I am at home so there is no need for day care but I thought this would be fun for her. I am so scared to do it though because of the germs she could pick up.

What does everyone think or do with your kids?

Thanks,
Karen

We send our three year old five days a week (I work). It has been a wonderful experience! I did check with the clinic before enrolling her, and they were very supportive. And very much not limiting her activities. We have been so very very lucky with the cleanliness of the place. We are also fortunate that there is a school nurse there all day that gives Kate her enzymes before meals and snacks. She comes to the room and picks her up a few minutes before they eat, and Kate just loves her and the special attention she gets each day. The nurse gives her a sticker when she does a good job with her enzymes! Anyway, preschool has been great for us!

My dd just turned three. Thus far we've avoided sending her to daycare, but we are planning on preschool in the fall. Its just two days a week and she'll get to swim for part of it. I'm very excited, she's totally ready to go and she's as excited as I am.

I do know people who have CF kids who found that sending them to preschool elevated their illness. They were sick much more often, and then they decided to pull them from school. So I am anxious, but prepared that if it isn't working we'll try something else.

Austin started pre-school at 2 for Social developement. It was 2 days a week for one hour and I had to stay with him during that time. That's how it was at that school.

When he was 3 he attended a different pre-school and I thought he was very lucky there. It so happened that one of the pre-school teachers has a daughter who has CF. What a coincendence. And I also found out that his teachers husband works for the same company that my hubby works at.

They have protocols on sanitizing the toys, constant hand washing and they were great about giving him his meds. They did it right there in front of the other kids which I thought was good. I think that if other kids sees a child taking there meds then its not a big deal and no secret for the child to be ashamed of.

Now that he is in grade school a lot of the kids reminds him that he needs to take his meds before he eats.
