I'm on week three of a course of pred at the moment. I had pleurisy, quite badly, and the doc thought IVs would clear it up. Well, it did and it didn't - there was some swelling and weird cracklings in my lungs so I was started on some pred to try and get rid of this - although this was after my IVs finished. Its the first time I've been on pred in 5 years, and I was majorily aprensive about it - last time I got that horrible fat face from it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> (Although I later found out that it was because of the high dose, 40 mg and 20 mg alternate days. That and probably the fact that it was my first time on pred).

But this dose I'm on, its 20mg for two weeks, 15mg for two weeks (which I'm currently in the middle of) then 10mg for three weeks, then I'll be done. It's definatley worked, all the cracklings from pleurisy have gone, and not only that, pred helped my apetite sky rocket. I suppose it was helpful that my lungs were in a condition to need pred as my appetite was at an all time low just before starting it.

I am wondering if doctors are using prednisone more often now.

</end quote></div>

I think you are seeing more Prednisone use now as more docs are looking for ABPA, or treating diminishing PFT's that aren't responding to abx therapy more readily.

I have ABPA so I am on prednisone all the time, although a small dose. I also have been sick though, and am on week three of a rather large amount. It does mess with my sugars but it is the only thing that allows me to breathe. I was like you with the wheezing and the SOB. I am on IVs also with it.

And yes, I am up all night also<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
