Pregestimil..Anyone used it or on it?

Brett's doctor wants him to possibly go on Pregestimil next month if he hasn't gained more weight. He's in the 25th percentile for weight and 75th for height, and has never not gained weight in a month. He's six months old.
I've heard nothing but bad things about pregestimil and how hard it is to get a baby to take it because of the horrible taste..it's also going to cost $150+ a week for it, which I'm fine with, if there really is added benefit.

I have been adding 1 tbsp. of heavy cream to every bottle, in addition to an extra scoop of formula and two scoops of rice cereal per his dietician.

I've heard of people having success with coconut oil...can anyone shed some light on this? I've also been told to hold off on solid foods until he's a year old.

HELP!

Dori, mom to Brett - 6 months DF508/3359delC, Brandon - 2 and a carrier.

DS was on it for two weeks. He arched his back and screamed when the bottle would come at him -- he hated it and after dh and I tasted it (tasted like the way road kill smells and vomit), we demanded that he be switched to regular formula, which he liked and ate.

Because of struggles with weight, not to mention the loss of weight because of his pregistimil induced bottle aversion, we were given a recipe for higher calorie formula (infamil lipil). Basically adding more powder to to the water. Also, once he turned 6 months old, his doctor told us not to bother with babyfood because it was so low in fat and sodium, but to grind up whatever we were eating. DS hasn't had issues with food allergies. I know that's a concern some doctors and dieticians may have...

He still had issues with some of the textures -- ground beef, so I would doctor up some stage 2 baby food with butter, dash of salt, cream... Also gave him whole milk yogurt which he loved. At daycare they ground up whatever the big kids were eating and he loved it. I also added olive oil to casseroles, added cream to his bottles of formula and sometimes nestles quick powder for extra calories.

One thing with all the cream, because it's so high in fat, we did have to increase his enzymes. And this summer his doctor switched/increased his enzyme dosage because of a lack of weight gain and that seemed to have helped, too.

Yes, Hannah was on Pregestimil. It was very expensive, and I couldn't wait to get her off of it! I don't recall her having any issues with taking it. But, I do remember that she was off the bottle the week before she turned one, without so much as a blink of the eye. I started her on whole milk in a cup. Maybe she switched so easily b/c she didn't have to drink nasty tasting Pregistimil anymore<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Oh, I forgot to mention, both of my girls were eating solids b/f they turned one. They went off a normal food introduction schedule that any baby would go through.
