They tried to switch my son to it, from regular Enfamil, when he was about 4 months old. They said his taste buds hadn't fully developed yet so he'd take it just fine.
Well, it was awful. He'd cry and cry because he was hungry, then he'd take one or two sips and refuse to drink aymore, and just cry. It was obvious he didn't like it and that's why he wasn't eating, but the doctors disagreed. I begged them to let me try his old formula for the weekend and I'd call back on Monday. Over the weekend he jumped from drinking 8 oz PER DAY to almost 40 oz, so they finally agreed to let me switch back.
They gave me a recipe to make his formula 28 cal instead of 20, and he shot up from the 5th percentile to almost the 75th. He was almost unrecognizeable at his next CF center visit.
I personally think it tastes like a mix of vomit and when you chew an arpirin, and unless babies are started on it very young, they probably will too.
Sorry I don't know anything about coconut oil. Why don't they want you to start any solids?
