They tried to switch my son to it, from regular Enfamil, when he was about 4 months old. They said his taste buds hadn't fully developed yet so he'd take it just fine.

Well, it was awful. He'd cry and cry because he was hungry, then he'd take one or two sips and refuse to drink aymore, and just cry. It was obvious he didn't like it and that's why he wasn't eating, but the doctors disagreed. I begged them to let me try his old formula for the weekend and I'd call back on Monday. Over the weekend he jumped from drinking 8 oz PER DAY to almost 40 oz, so they finally agreed to let me switch back.

They gave me a recipe to make his formula 28 cal instead of 20, and he shot up from the 5th percentile to almost the 75th. He was almost unrecognizeable at his next CF center visit.

I personally think it tastes like a mix of vomit and when you chew an arpirin, and unless babies are started on it very young, they probably will too.

Sorry I don't know anything about coconut oil. Why don't they want you to start any solids?

Ben was on it until he was about 5 months to help him with tummy issues. Since pregistimil is already broken down it is easier for babies with CF to digest. If you go to the enfamil website it talks about pregisitimil more. It was really expensive and hard to find. I was always scared we would run out and I wouldn't be able to get it right away, so I ordered from the website in bulk. Ben switched to enfamil when he was 5 months and now that he is 10 months he eats alot of regular foods.

Grayson is still on that nasty stuff and the only way she takes it is thur her G-tube. Trying to get her to take it with a bottle lead to bottle aversion. She is almost 9mos now. We started her on solid foods and she does fine with that. Also she has never had a bottle and we have just started giving her a sippy cup( the kind with a straw) with ensure which she is finally drinking by mouth now. Since she has a short gut that was the only thing that she could tolorate.

That was the same thing that happened to us. The dietician was really pushing and told us the same thing and in the next breath, tried telling us that babies don't like adeks becauase of the taste. She also tried to claim that DS had a poor suck reflex and maybe needed therapy; however, we KNEW ds would take regular formula because prior to the discovery of his bowel obstruction, we gave him a bottle of infamil lipil and I he kept drinking like a maniac and I remember asking my husband how much a baby was supposed to drink because he wouldn't let go and he was drinking wayyyyy to much.

We switched to extra calorie infamil and he did pretty good, except he was a little cautious thinking we were trying to give him pregistimil. Then every time we'd go to the local cf clinic they'd bring it up again, how we really needed to switch back to it.
