pregnancy and albueteral

I was just wondering how many of you that have been pregnant have noticed that when you do your albuteral treatments that your baby would jump around and kick alot more? This seems to be very consistant. Yesterday I felt 20 kicks while I was doing my albuteral. I know it is a form of a stimulant since it is a bronchial dialator. ( I know I cant spell) I am just getting into my fifth month right now.

I use an albuterol inahler only, but I haven't noticed any extra kicking in conjunction with it. I am 23 weeks.

In little children it does cause them to be hyper. My little nephew had to do it because he has RSV, and after treatments it would make him hyper. Wish it did that to me!!!!

If I remember correctly....this is an old one for me. The only inhaled beta agonist that dosen't cross into the babies system is bronchosol. I think albuterol has been shown to be dangerous in mice but am unaware of any human studies. Actually, I think it is just one of those drugs they just are not real sure about. As for "making your kid go hyphy...I have no idea?

Bronchosol, I wish I had known that med sooner on. I did quite a bit of research innitially on the Albuteral when I first found out I was pregnant. I was concerned about it causing any possible birth defects. The only thing I found was the same thing you mentioned about the one strain of mice they tested. The particular study results I found speculated that cleft pallet was unique to that particular mouse family and that none of the other strains tested had shared the cleft pallet result. That did of course leave a little ? in the back of my mind..... I asked my CF doc and my OB doc and they both agreed the Albuteral was safe ( or they did not have any experience with any abnormal fetal outcomes due to the medication)
That is reasurring and not so much at the same time. I agree with you on your comments. I may ask about Bronchosol on my next visit.
Thank you.

Thanks Wanderlost for your input. I think the inhaler puts the med into your system faster than the neb. So, it may just be my imagination or just timing that the med was even linked to the baby moving more. Because now that I think of it, I sit back a ways in my rocker when i do that treatment. That positon may make it easier for me to feel the baby move.

HairGirl: Abuteral does make me jittery. It is like that morning cup of coffee in a way. It really wakes me up. Makes my heart pound a bit. I hope that is normal.

MOME2RT: I could do without the jitters.

Thanks for your input guys.

I read the sam thing - I think it is on the pharmaceutical insert that comes with the meds - and I had the same conversation with my Cf doc, and was assured that it was safe. I did in fact stop using it for the frist few weeks I was pregnant, but found I needed it enough that I had to go back on it. I have seen my baby though, and no cleft lip - palate (actually, I don't know if they could see the palate, but no lip - I asked them to look)!

I did albuterol during both of my prgnancies. I did not notice any excessive kicking during my treatments. Are you doing CPT during them, that is when my babies would go wild especially in the last few months.

Thanks for the encouragement by letting me know your doc was okay with the albuteral too. I guess I am just paraniod ...it is all very new. sometimes I just don't know what to think about it all. I get my ultrasound next month to make sure things are good and I hope to find out if I am having a boy or a girl. I am glad to hear that your ultrasound was good!

It never occured to me that CPT would stir a baby up. But, now thinking of it that would make sense. I do my albuteral first, then CPT, and then hypertonic saline. I found the position I sit in really makes the baby kick while I am doing my treatments. This last week I have begun to feel alot of the baby's movements. It is such a neat experience!

Thanks for your input guys, it sure helps to be able to ask questions. It is amazing how many things float around in a persons head when you are pregnant.
