preparing your body for pregnancy

I am totaly new to this whole forum thing. I have been married for seven months and my husband and I were discussing what actions needed to be taken before getting pregnant. I had a miscarriage last year due to the medication I was on at the time. It made me realize that when the time comes to have a family I need to be in the best health possible. I worry about getting pregnant and being on meds. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would be very interested to know what medication you were on that would make you miscarry since most or some of us may also need to take it some time in the future. Do you know it was the medication or just curious. I met with a perinatologist prior to planning conception and found otu what meds to stop and what ones to keep, also added folic acid to my regular vitamin regimen.

Then I planned conception around my 'bad times of year' so I would not be pregannt in feb mar range which are bad for me, I pre-emptively did IV's in Mar, I didnt truly need IV's but it had been a while and I knew I was about due, I talked 'confidentially' wiht my nurse and told her I wanted them and why and she didnt think my doc would go for it however being the resourceful girl that I am I played a bit sick when I went in, complained of pleurisy and streaking and didnt blow quiet as hard as I could when it came time for the PFT's and then requested IV's --presto, got my way LOL.

I was actually on IVs when I conceived... I was on Zosyn & Aztreonam. I don't know if this had anything to do with me getting pregnant, but I am sure it helped. I think it probably thinned out the cervical mucus + put me in really good health right before this 9 month journey!

I think it's definitely a good idea to go on IVs before getting pregnant, even if it's just a little tune-up!

I'm going on my 16th week on Sunday and haven't been sick yet - just a slight increased cough but it's not my "sick" cough.. hopefully I can make it 5 more months without IV!

Good luck!
