Right now we are taking Probiotic Acidophilus by Schiff.

It has 1 million CFU of lactobacillus and 50 mg of calcium.

Did your docs suggest taking these? I've heard of taking acidopholous for yeast only when necessary, but not just to take as supplements. Just curious.

Thanks,

When is the best time to take them? With my other meds ( including oral antibiotics) twice a day, or separate from them?

I honestly don't know, but I am planning on asking my dr. Thursday at my appointment. If no one gets back to you before then, I'll let you know what he says <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">.

I would not take them with antibiotics. As someone mentioned before just space them so they are furthest away. I have however read in the past that some people say it is ok to take them together, but I think it depends on the antibiotic and if it would kill the good bacteria that the probiotic is trying to restore. In my mind it makes sense to just take them in between your antibiotic doses, which is what I try to do.

Have any of you found probiotics to be really effective? I talked to my doc about using them, and his reply was that you'd have to ingest a huge amount of them to actually notice any significant benefit. He didn't seem to think it was worth the trouble.
