probiotics

I would recommend a pro-biotic to anyone. Had I known about it a while ago I would have started taking one and maybe I would still have my colon and wouldn't have had to deal with a colostomy bag for 9 months.

Because of being on so many antibiotics pre and post Tx, I got c-diff really bad (first time ever) and being on Flagyl didn't work so I had to have my colon removed. When the docs took it out, they said that it was worse than they thought it was. I had to more surgeries after that to have my small intestine attached to my rectum and then get the ileostomoy reversed so that I could go to the bathroom normally.

I now take Acidophillus/Lactobacillus three times a day at the docs request to keep my small intestine healthy and hopefully not lose parts of that too.

antibiotics kill the bad stuff AND the good stuff in our bodies, so i always make it a priority to replace the good stuff.</end quote></div>

Exactamundo. Antibiotics are non-discriminating bacteria destroyers. They do the job they are prescribed to do, but IMO in the long run they do much more harm than good. I can't fathom how your son's docs will say that probiotics will NOT be beneficial for your son. He can eat plenty of yogurt, read the labels carefully, and only purchase yogurt that contains Bifidus and Lactobacillis acidophilis, and be sure to stay away from aspartame.

Definately! Zoe had c-diff also and just like Tami(izzemom) we put Zoe on Culturelle immediately after that. On a regular basis, she takes one a day, while on antibiotics, two a day. She hasn't had c-diff since!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Take care,

My daughter 5wcf has been taking probiotics since she was 16 months old. When she doesn't take them for a day or 2 I notice a big difference in her bms and she gets tummyaches. She takes Probiotic Eleven and Culturelle. They are both capsules that contain powder and we put the powder in PLAIN yogurt. We use the 2 kinds bc they both contain high amounts of different strains of probiotcs.
