problems with social worker?

has anybody else out there had problems with their social worker not being helpful? i recently experienced this my son just lost his state insurance after 13yrs due to my income which i still don't understand the system i am a working single parent who gets no help what so ever from my sons dad. but if i did not work i would be able to reap all the states benefits, well anyway the social worker got word that we lost the insurace because i had to request some samples meds as i was not prepared to be without insurance she made a comment about welcome to the working poor and kind of laughed it off, deffinately not what i wanted to hear and might i say how unprofessinal. and no such luck of her maybe giving me some resources and offering guidance, this of which she has never done for us. i have done all the research i can with what i know. i'm still waiting to hear back on this patient assistance program. and he is currently on my coverage through my employer which expense is costing and arm and a leg
well thanks for listening would like to hear your responses

Personally I can't stand the social work field, i have a hard trying to justify talking to someone who has no idea just what its like everyday to be the parent of a child/ren with something like CF. They are probably good for resources and things (although not in your case it seems) but I feel that when on the occasion i have been made to talk to one (after the birth of my 2nd child who also has CF) it was a bit of voyerism on their part - possible due to the person rather than the field, but it only tkes one bad apple.

Anyway probably completely off topic there, all the best with working through your situation, its suxs when it becomes better off to not work than to work.

I think a CF Social Worker really needs special training. Like any chronic illness there are certain criterias that need to be addressed that the average social worker wouldnt know about.

Anything from state aid, disability, indemnity policies to what its like to face transplant.

Our social worker is awesome, but sadly she had to learn a lot on the job. She learned a lot from the older patients. It was a benefit for her & for the younger patients or the parents of them, but it wasnt the easiest on us older patients.

That being said tho there is a huge difference between not knowing all that needs to be known & being totally unprofessioinal with a statement such as your SW made.

I would pitch a bitch to someone in the clinic. You have enough to worry about with the care, never mind trying to do research etc while getting through each day of life.

BTW I learned from Jada that many of these SW "work together" & contact each other with issues that might arise that they dont know the answers to. If your SW didnt know the answer then my understanding is that there should be a "group" to refer to. I know our SW has that "group" also even tho I dont think it always existed.

I am sorry you are dealing with this.

I personally have never found them useful. Just a waste of my time at clinic when I am just wanting to see the doctor and leave. I hate having to go through five different people before ever getting to the real reason we are there in the first place...to see a doctor. The nutritionist is another one who is so useless. When my son was allergic to milk and eggs she would tell me things to give him that had milk in it...go figure. Anyway I have a bad taste for our clinic right now....after just having been on Wednesday and having a BAD experience.... so I'm probably not the best person to be giving my opinion...lol. I hope you get things worked out...I know it is totally frustrating.
