My sons 1st fecal elastase was 160, 8 weeks later it was 360. The doctor said that 360 is completely normal but I have read on here that it is not normal. Since he started on the enzymes he is eating less frequently, hes less gassy and less fussy. Does anyone know if being on prevacid will affect these test results. And what are the facal elastase numbers?? He ordered a 3rd fecal elastase today. This is so frustrating!!!!

160 is not normal. Anything under 200 is abnormal. 160 is considered mild PI. Keep in mind it can continue to get worse my daughter started off mild at 145 now she is down into the 40s thats within a 4 year period of time.. Some kids just hang out at the same place they have been. Others can go from being PS and progress to being PI. If they are really thinking he is not PI they can do a fecal fat test see if there is any fat in it. Also they can repeat the elastase test the second one could have been a fluke.

Prevacid should not affect the test. Prevacid is an acid
blocker. Fat in the stool is a whole different thing. My daughter is PI and has been on prevacid longer then I can
remember. I would have them repeat the test.

My daughters faecal elastase test showed levels above 500, which we were told were normal functioning levels.
However we are in England and I dont know if the levels vary in other countries. 350 is borderline here I think, and under 250 is PI.
