pseudomonas post transplant

I am currently 2 months post transplant and I just found out that I have 2 strains of pseudomonas. Of course I'm rather bummed out. However, the doctor said that it was no big deal because it is a very low colinization. They told me to continue doing colistin inhalation (no iv antibiotics at this point because there are no symptoms and I feel great).

Has anybody had this experience, and did it pose any future problems? I guess I'm nervous that if it showed up this early, I'm headed for trouble. Thanks in advance for your reply. Kim

Did they mention if the PA came from your sinuses or not? Just curious. I have no real input regarding post tx or tx in general!

Hi Kim. I am almost 2 years post double lung and liver. I have not had any infections, only acute rejection. I just wanted to say that even if your doctors are not that concerned about it, I would still keep a close eye on it. I don't want to scare you or anything but there is a girl that I had seen on Facebook and she was like 6 years post and doing great mid-September and the next thing I knew, I saw a post that she had gotten pneumonia from somewhere and she passed on October 22.

When you have transplant, infections are seriously nothing to mess with. I'm sure that your doctors know what they are doing but if you start to get any other symptoms, call your doctors immediately.

The first bronch they did on me post tx they found pseudomonas, I think that must have been 36 hours post, just before they took out the bronch.

Ofcourse they didn't know this right away, it came from a culture.

So after a few days when they had found it they started a course of Tobramycine on me. My x-ray didn't look really good either.

This IV course did the trick and my x-ray got better again. Next bronch they did 4 weeks post was clear of pseudo.

Right now I think I do culture some pseudo in my sputum. But the sputum is mostly snot that has gone down from my sinusses. It also comes from throat swabs.
Nothing much to do about it as it is in my sinusses. I'm on Zithro for my sinusses.

My advice would be to really keep an eye on it. Are your x-rays getting worse or if you're coughing more, ask your doctors if they can treat the pseudo.
