I usually dont take pulmozyme on regular basis since it wasnt available here. Now since it is now available in lebanon, I ve been using it regularly since 3 weeks and i can tell it has alot of side effects. First concern, i developed massive hemoptysis many times before it so the doctor ruled out that the persisting minor hemoptysis episodes are related to it but the late stage of the disease.

second, i cant sleep properly at night bcz of the gurgling sensation . I feel the sputum moving in my chest and it makes weird sounds just like blood. So i have to remain on my nerves and wait till i spit it to know if its blood or not.

third im coughing non stop 24/24

fourth im advised not to stop it !

any suggestions or hints

thank you

Take it in the morning, not evening, so you should be able to rest at night!

To be honest, it sounds like it's working! And that's a good thing. Coughing more, getting that thick sticky mucus to move around and out is the point. Try and stick with it for another month or more. You'll probably get used to some of the sensations as well.

At night I use an air purifier in my room and it's conveniently loud enough to muffle my "gurgling" mucus while I sleep. I can't stand to sleep or even breathe while awake in a quiet room because I can hear myself gurgling. If you don't have access to a white noise machine, try a white noise CD or fan.

Yeah, that is just what it feels like when it's working.

It's rough at first, but it really clears out ALL that gunk in your lungs that you were unable to get out before. It almost feels like you are drowning when you first start pulmozyme because there is just so much mucous. Keep using it and just try to cough everything out as best you can... it should eventually get to the point where you don't feel the gurgling anymore. Also do like Uli said and use it in the morning so it doesn't bother you at night.
