One of the things I noticed with DS besides the texture issue, was that bland baby foods just didn't appeal to him. He preferred things that were highly seasoned. A lot of times I'd grind up canned chicken ala king, bean & bacon soup or beef stew (sans peas). Or I'd add butter and salt to his babyfood. We also added cream to his bottle of formula -- kept him on formula until he was 18 months old because we had food issues.

She's still at an age where she can't tell you what she wants, so you'll probably have to do as we did and give her a wide range of options. Sometimes I felt as if I was running a diner. His dietician was no help, telling us to keep trying with the same foods, put a bit of it on his plate and eventually he'll eat what we're eating. Nope -- he'd scream as if he was being butchered. But if we found something he liked -- we'd run with it. Even if it meant yo-baby yogurt and spagettios for every meal for a week.

I know it's frustrating, but you can't get into a power struggle with it. Many a time I'd have to walk away from the table in frustration for fear I'd start screaming at the poor kid.

My daughter is almost 2 and has had a g-tube for about 3 months. Her whole life has been battles like you are describing, off and on. She will absolutely fight eating for a few weeks, then she'll do great. Then, back to WWIII every mealtime. Her older sister was the same way (still is) but it didn't matter so much, no cf!

I think you are up against some tought situations. One, you have the "toddler control" issues starting. She is starting to realize that she CAN make decisions and have opinions. All kids do this, but, of course it's harder with ours. Also, I wonder if she is just so full from her tube feedings that she just really doesn' have an appetite for other things. Maybe she never really developed one. I know how badly you want that tube out. beleive me, I do. Me too.

talk to your dietician. Can you adjust the tube feedings somewhat to see if you can get her natural appetite to kick in? (They'll tell you no....who am I kidding?). I have found that there is a difference between what you will find between the dietician in the cf clinic and the dietician in the gi clinic, and, a regular old dietician. The regular old one is usually the one who is most grounded in reality and had had some great suggestions for us. The gi one, too. It can't hurt to make a few calls.

As far as rejecting the applesauce, try the flavored ones by Dole and DelMOnte. THey are "chunkier" and have a very different taste. We had to start using them at abut 10 months when Em started spitting out baby food. ANd, like someone said, the more flavorfull the food, the better. WE salt AND pepper Em's food heavily. OH, and spaghettio's and yo-baby every day? Yep, I call it lunch. EVERY day, I kid you not.

Good luck. I know all too well how frustrating this is. Please keep us updated!
