Question about FEV stats?

Hey everyone,

I just found this site tonight! I'm brand new and should be studying for my midterm right now, but my mind is on my CF.

First of all my ? involves FEV1 stats. I always had stats that were in the 70s or 80s, then within a short time they shot down to 31, now they are up a tiny a bit.
I was wondering what are other peoples experiences trying to bring your FEV up. Is it possible to bring mine back to it's original 70%. How long did it take others to raise theirs up? I have never had this much trouble and I just got off IV meds, but they didn't help much with my coughing or shortness of breath(prolly because my stats dropped)

Okay on a lighter note... I'll introduce myself. I'm rockgirl- cuz I'm s Geology major( so I look at rocks a lot) I'm currently also emphasizing atmospheric and environmental sciences. I want to minor in Architecture if I can fit it in next semester. I'm on my 5th yr of college and can't wait to graduate in Dec of 2008. Hoping to start for a masters in Jan! I have an amazing family and friends back home!

I'm 22, (23 in april), single, um not giving my weight( used to be 110 though), but I'm 5'2. I'm a small person with a big personality. I enjoy dancing, theatre, singing, movies, reading, watching football, video games, coaching basketball, learning, hanging with friends, cooking/cleaning, and eating!

Thanks!

Welcome! I'm glad you found this site. That's awesome that you're a geology major. I'm an environmental scientist (not to be confused with a tree hugging environmental wacko). My main focus is on atmospheric science and air quality. I'd love to get to know you more--I think we'd get along well.

As to your question about FEV1, when you said you used to be in the 70's or 80's, that's still a pretty big range. What age were you when that was happening? Did you change doctors at all during the time when it went down to 30?

Personally I've had a lot of fluctuation with my FEV1. There was a time when it was in the 40s, but eventually I was able to get it up to the high 60s again. There are a lot of factors to be considered. Do you have asthma in addition to CF?

I look forward to hearing from you when you get a chance.

LOL! I thought "rockgirl" was going to have something to do with music!

Welcome to the site!

I'm an American living in Japan, please don't confuse me with being Japanese because a) CF is very rare in Japan b) The Last Samurai was about 200 years ago!
I am, however, involved in the martial arts, which is the reason for "samurai".

I might be percieved as japanese culture hugging whacko, but I keep myself in check, too!

BTW, I found geology fascinating too when I was learning it in High School...actually kinda helpful in the electronics industry...where do you think all that silicone comes from?

lightNlife and I get along well, so one more is just more company, eh?

I'm also looking forward to hearing from you!

i think the issue of flucuating fev1 depends on the person ,some people can get them back up if there is not to much damage ie it just might be loads of mucus ,and no permenant scaring

however the longer that they are down the more likely they will not recover, say for instance like you have slipped down to your 30s well if this is not attended to they will not recover but if you have good medical care and are seen immediatly you will recover some of the lung function

ie me i dropped from 86 to 73 and they put me on all the new meds and in september last year i recovered to 86,however they have dropped again down to 68 largly becauase i have lapsed on the exercise
