Question about FEV stats?

I love the name too. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Welcome to the site.

I'm just going to echo what everyone else says - don't give up on that lung function. I lost a huge amount of lung function as I was finishing up college and am only now gaining it back slowly. What did the trick for me? New combinations of medications, and LOTS OF EXERCISE!! If anything is going to be the "secret" I can honestly say it is getting out and doing a bare minimum of exercise every single day, no matter how you feel. I'm working on being able to run, but right now I do a walk/run combo (look a couple threads down if you want to see people's tips about that, good thread)

So ask your doctors if there is something else you can try - something they might have missed? Maybe a weird bug will respond to a 2 or 3 med cocktail, or a burst of prednisone, or something inhaled. Maybe you have reactive airways or an asthmatic component like Jordysmom says her son does. Does your chest xray show lots of damage?

Hey,
Yeah. Maybe I will give IVs another round and I'll start up with more exercise.

Yes, I have Asthma. Also I have Blebs in my lungs. Does anyone else have blebs(inflated air pockets)? I heard they aren't CF related, I looked into a bit and it looks like when people without CF get them, the doctors just inject a bit of bacteria to deflate them. However, bacteria -obviously- can't be put in my lungs.

Does anyone know if this is accurate? If anyone know anything else about blebs let me know.

Oh, one more ? - does anyone else ever not be able to bring up and out anything- I've never given a culture, only throat swabs. Apparently, I have a really small windpipe, the one time- I had a bronchoscopy done- my doc said he thought he wasn't going to be able to get it out. He had to give me a bunch of relaxers and he scraped the life out of my throat.

If anyone else has these problems please let me know.

Thanks all! Nice to meet you!

ya a culture is essential to know which antibiotics to give you, as others have said. if the antibiotics aren't able to treat the bacteria, your lung function will drop and stay there until the bacteria and brought under control.

do you use pulmozyme, hypertonic saline, NAC, exercise, or the Vest to thin your secretions/hydrate your airways? this could assist you in bringing up sputum.

i'm studying too.... i have a final this week and two next week. so i feel ya. good thing i can read without getting motion sickness while doing my vest <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">
