question about rectal prolapse

I had rectal prolapse 3 times when I was a kid. I was little and kept trying to poop because my stomach hurt. Then, I told my mom that I thought a hotdog was coming out of my butt. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> We went in to the emergency room and they basically shoved it back in. Anyway, I would definitely call the doc.

Kayla was dx b/c of rectal prolapses. Hers were very bad-we are talking several inches would come out! Sometimes they would go back in on there own, and other times it took an ER visit. Kayla had so many, I couldn't even count them.

She was hosptalized one time for 5 days with a tube in her bottom (taped onto her rear end) while she was not allowed any food (so she wouldn't have a bowel movement). The idea was to give her lower colon a chance to regain some strength.

Kaylas were bad b/c she went misdiagnosed for so long and the muscles were just wore down from so many bowel movements. She had to have three surgical procedures over two years to fix the problem.

I would at least give your childs clinic a call and let them know that you are concerned. Under most circumstances they will correct themselves and it is not a problem. I am sure that Kayla had many more that I was not aware of b/c they corrected themselves.

Thanks everyone, I have called the clinic and am waiting for a call back. Thanks for reassuring me that its nothing too serious. It does sound like it might be a prolapse, although very minor because it doesn't actually stick out. We'll see what the doc says!

I noticed something similar a few times when we switched DS to whole milk and he had MAJOR constipation issues. Sorry if TMI, but the poor child would start to stool and halfway thru would get stuck.
