question about rectal prolapse

ANyoen have any experience with rectal prolapse? I think something is up with my daughter, almost 2 months old. She has pooped a couple of times when i was midway through changing a diaper. I could see some pinkish, reddish tissue, but it did NOT actually hang out. I could just see it, inside, as she was pushing out towards the end of pooping. I tried googling pics, the tissue itself looks similar, but like I said, it doesn't actaully protrude out. I can just see in, I guess. Is that normal? Or maybe she has an incomplete prolapse? Have you ever been able to see any tissue like that when your child was pooping? Or is that not normal?

Hi Amber

I have no experience with rectal prolapse, but I have seen what you are describing in a non-cf kid. A little girl I baby sat for many many years ago would do that with almost every diaper change. I have no idea why.

I do think it's worth a call to clinic or pediatrician, though. As long as it's resolving itself she's probably fine, but you lose nothing by asking.

Hope you get an answer soon.

Hi Amber,

I don't have experience with rectal prolapse in Maggie but they told me to watch her for that in the beginning because of her CF and GI issues. Did the prolapse go back on its own? Is your daughter taking enzymes? Maybe she was straining really hard? I would also like Tami said maybe give the doc or nurse a call. Our pediatrician did tell us not to get upset if it happens and just make sure it goes back in. Also, I think it can have something to do with enzymes(making sure you're not getting too many or not getting enough.)

I noticed it with my son when he was potty training. It was pretty quick and looked like red/pink insides slipping out a little. I quickly called the GI dr and she said not to worry about it. I would call your dr though.
Sharon, mom of Sophia, 7 and Jack, 5 both with cf, Grant, two months without cf
