Question for CF moms

Hi,

My son has never gone to daycare because my spouse and I work different shifts (6am-2pm and 3-11pm). With baby #2 on the way, we plan to keep our schedules the same until they both get to go to preschool. It makes it hard on us because we rarely see each other though. But we realize it's what we have to do. We would not want to subject our son (or me) getting all those sicknesses from daycare. Of the people I know whose kids are in daycare, the parents are sick all the darn time! We cannot afford for one of us to not work, plus we would never want to be SAHM's because we actually like our jobs.

It is so hard to decide what to do with the kids until they get to school age! Hopefully you can find what will work out for you both.

Thank you all so much for your input...very helpful!

I guess I was hoping for too much when I thought you'd all tell me that having kids in daycare/school had no effect on your health whatsoever...lol!

Sorry this is kinda late but I am catching up on all these posts lol. I have 2 kids, one is 5 and one is 3. My 5 year old started preschool when she was 3, so this is her 3rd year in school - 2 years of preschool, and now Kindergarten. Around here, our schools work hard to be sure the kids wash hands before eating, after using the restroom, and when they come inside from recess. There is far less germ-passing in the schools than in the daycares, I think. I try VERY hard to keep germs to a minimum coming into this house. Shoes come of at the door, first thing done is to scrub hands with soap. I am a huge fan of Clorox wipes, Lysol, and bleach lol. I've also worked hard with both girls on proper hand washing, which we all know prevents more sickness than anything else. There was no way I was going to homeschool, I am just NOT cut out for it, so I do what I can in order for her to go to school and will do the same with my youngest, who I plan to start in preschool in the Fall. It takes a lot of work, and yeah we do get some colds that we probably wouldn't have if she stayed home...but I think the benefit of her being in school, making friends, etc, outweighs the risks to me. That's OUR family though, one of those things each has to decide for themselves.
