Hi Girls,

The last couple months i have had continual itching symptoms of a yeast infection =( No fun...

I take zithromax everyday and my inhaled antibiotics but I have been on the zithromax forever so im not sure why this problem is just happening now.

In the past I would get them when I went on IVs but I have been healthy for about four months.

Im wondering if anyone else has had this problem... my gynocologist dosent seem to concerned and says its probably the "over regualtion in my body from all the cf meds"... but the itching is driving me crazy. Im trying to take probiotics and difulcan but its reoccuring...

I was just wondering if this has been a problem for other cf ladies or if its sperate.

Thanks

I have the same issue. Even though I have been on Zithromax for months and months. All of a sudden I will have a yeast infection for a few weeks. I do the yogurt and Teraconazole, but I still am extremely itchy, too. Wish I was more help. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

This also happens with my 8 year old. We are on a 21 day antibiotic round right now and I have been pumping her full of the probiotic yogurt and she lathers cream on her bottom! It doesn't prevent it from happening but it does help some. Sorry you are going through that.

I had this issue a month or two ago. I was on the same abx as usual, take probiotic...etc. I didn't have any Diflucan refills so I bought some Azo Yeast pills from Target. I only took a few of them and my symptoms went away. Might be worth a try.

Melissa,
You definitely aren't alone in this and it is something that your gyno should be helping with. If nothing else, this is extremely uncomfortable!

There is a prescription suppository that I have used in the past but I forget the name of it. I find that Monistat-1 gel works just as well and my symptoms are gone in a few days.

Hope this gets better!

I have a long history of recurrent yeast infections. It is especially bad while pregnant for me and while on antibiotics and steroids. If I am not seriously religious with my probiotics I am treating a yi every other week!

What probiotics are you taking? If you are not taking a high quality one they may not be working. You have to use one that guarantees the active cultures through the expiration date, not at the time of manufacture. I found "Jarrow Fem-dophilus" and "Renew life ultimate flora vaginal support" to be the best ones for me. They are expensive but so worth it. Right now I'm only taking "culturelle" which seems to be working fine for the moment. Yogurt is good but the right probiotic will have lots more active cultures. You can also apply PLAIN UNSWEETENED yogurt topically or even use one of those yeast medicine applicators to insert some inside. I find however that once you actually have a yeast infection probiotics won't cure it. Probiotics are only good as prevention.

The other thing I was thinking Melissa - has your gyn actually tested you to make sure it is a yeast infection? Bacterial vaginosis symptoms can be similar and obviously won't be cured by yeast medicines.

Diflucon is what I use. the suppositories and creams make it worse before better and can handle it so I pop the pill and presto. Sometimes while on IV drugs got to take at least 3 through out the 2 week course. Make sure it is for sure a yeast infection and then maybe get a script for diflucon. Also, discuss not doing Zithro anymore, I had to stop cause of it.
