We are definitely going to ask for testing on this front. If the specialist doesn't want to do it, I believe our primary pediatrician would order the test as he already suggested it as a possibility for future consideration.

I'm so glad Adam is doing so well! 27 lbs!!!! Amazing. The little man of mine seems like he might never weigh 27 lbs!!!

The specialist is at a very large children's hospital, so I'm confident they know that it's possible to not be gravely ill and still have CF, but I fear that the negative Newborn screening test has as good as ruled out the possibility for them. And it does make it extremely unlikely (thank goodness), but certainly not impossible (unfortunately).

Hope you (and your kids) all stay well. The little man's cough continues, but is mostly gone when he's asleep, so he's at least getting a little more rest than he usually gets.

Well... since we've started on the pulmicort twice a day, the little man is definitely doing better. He seems to recover from colds on something more like a normal kid. The pulm was not impressed with his history, especially since he didn't have a cough at our appointment (AGAIN). Our regular pediatrician has started him on singulair to help with his sinuses and his ear infections and we are supposed to try weaning him off the pulmicort in April and see how he does.

My husband thinks this is a reasonable plan (he's a doctor, but not one who really knows anything about this). I told the regular pediatrician that as long as he continues getting over the cough that comes with a cold within a week of getting it, I will be satisfied that things are going okay. If he returns to coughing constantly for more than a week, I'm going to insist we pursue this further. Also, if he needs to continue the pulmicort past winter to simply function like a "regular" kid, I'm going to want to pursue this further also, as I'm not comfortable just assuming he's got "reactive airways" without assurances it's nothing more serious.
