Random CF encounter

OMG!!! Sue that exact thing happened to me too! I was coughing at work and a co-worker outed me! Her college roomate had CF and she used to do her CPT and stuff which she just yammered on and on about all the glories of CF until finally I was like SHUT UP!
And my Chemistry Teacher in highschool I think his nephew or someone had it. Both he and his wife came to visit me in the hospital...that was really sweet. Too bad I stunk at Chemistry <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

I am new to this forum, but I saw this topic and wanted to share. When I was growing up one of my brother's friends, a cute punk with red hair, had CF. He must have known that I had it, too, because he would come to our house and all my meds and nebulizers would be lying around the kitchen and living room, but he never said anything to us about it. I think he asked my brother once why I had was taking all of those medications, but he never admitted that he had CF too.

Years later I met up with him again at a party. I still didn't know he had CF. Well, we both got a little tipsy and we ended up kissing on a couch.

Later I found out from a mutual friend that he was sick and in the hospital. When I asked what was wrong he said, "You don't know? He has CF too." It was really a weird experience in retrospect. It could have been dangerous too.

Anyway, as I said I am new, so hello!

I knew that my acupuncture provider has another client with CF, so it wasn't a huge surprise - but the first time I clearly recognized the cough. My son had a girlfriend who was often sick with bronchitis - we were both coughing on a long ride in the car - it was the same cough! By the next year, when I was diagnosed, they were no longer together. I wrote her a letter encouraging her to look at the possibility of CF, but she never responded.

I had one just the other day. My husband's license plate says BRTH4CF and we had just pulled up to a restaurant. A waitress from the restaurant next door was just going into work and she stopped us and asked us which one of us had CF. Turns out her daughter has it as well.

The weirdest one happened a few months ago. At the place I used to work I was in charge of training the new people. I happened to be on antibiotics at the time so my port was accessed. I'm very open about my CF so I basically said, "Look, I have CF. Now you know, don't stare at me like I'm a wierdo. If you want to talk about it, I'd rather you just ask me instead of staring at me." One of the girls came up to me later and said that she had to leave early because her stepsister also had CF and was in the hospital at the time. We got to talking and it turns out that her stepbrother had it too, and he was "S" who used to contribute to these forums!! I knew from threads on the board that we lived near each other and we went to the same hospital, but it was too weird!!

there were two men, both 40's peirced ear, balding, adorable together, both wearing CF 'breathe' bands, but one was in a wheel chair. it was so cute. the man i figured out, after some eavesdropping, had just had a double lung transplant and was recovering. i wished so bad that day that i'd worn my breathe band.

that always impacted me <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

When I'm at my dad's office sometimes he'll be talking to a client/friend and I'll pop into the room for something and he'll be like, "oh here's my daughter that was in the hospital because of her CF" (or something like that) and quite a few times the person has said that they know someone who has it. I recently heard from my dad that there is a family with 3 kids who all have CF. I don't recall how I found out but I found out that my neighbor across the complex has CF (although she's moved away and we lost contact). Also when I was in middle school my choir teacher had a daughter who was at the school with CF. Oh and a girl I had known for one year in high school I saw later in our first year of college and she had a CF bracelet and I asked her about it and she said her friend had CF, I thought that was cool. But no really random encounters of people with CF, although I do watch for it especially when I hear someone cough or see someone really thin.

We just got a ne team manager for our area, last week we were having our first onoe on one get to know you sessions, I inevitable had a good cough and he asked me if I had CF. Apparently he had a very close family friend that had CF.
