Some may disagree with this but I don't use disinfecting products around the house. The odor makes me feel tight in the chest and ill. I clean with 1/2 vinegar -1/2 water and spray around the kitchen and bathroom with hydrogen peroxide to kill germs. I've heard that disinfectants can cause bacteria around the house to become stronger and harder to get rid of - kind of like how bacteria becomes resistant to antibiotics.

I'm sure there are some things I let her do that are questionable but I don't want her to be defined by CF. I do explain why she should be cautious when playing in dirt and she always asks for her gardening gloves if they are digging around.

Lilismom --- GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! I often say how much I hate that crap that kills 99.9% of bacteria or whatever. There are SO MANY people that don't need to be using it and still do. The people that are justified are like... transplant recipients or really severe cases of various things (AIDS, CF -- I don't like this one, I just leave it open because I know there are situations I'm not familiar with, but overall CFers don't need everything disinfected).

But I've said 1,000 times that using that stuff only makes the bacteria stronger. Is that what we really want? Yeah, no thanks. Just wanted to let you know that I think that's fantastic. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

The closest I get to disinfecting things is when I had a supply of Purell at my 40th birthday for those interested. I wash my hands properly & maintain the house, but dont use disinfectants much around the home.

I use only the run of the mill stuff, and the stuff that's made for convienience...the toilet brushes that you flush when you're done, the Clorox - type wipes that don't require a spray bottle, a towel...the windex wipes that are the same way. It's nothing special, (well, I do use the generic brand of cleaning wipes becasue they're cheaper AND the container states that it kills psuedomonas) but, I do clean more often than I do before Emily was born. I wipe the sinks out with a quick swipe every day, I dust every few days with my Swiffer duster, I do the floors with the WetJet weekly or more if needed(this NEVER happened before we moved to a new house). I don't go hog-wild over disinfecting, and Lord knows Emily is exposed to her fair share of normal, everyday germs...but, I do feel better knowing that I'm keeping up with the cleaning as best I can.
