random shivering/vomiting

This has happened three times in the last week. Emily will start to shiver uncontrollably, then vomit profusely. I am stumped.

Each occurance has been in the morning, about an hour to an hour and a half after stopping her overnight feed. The shivering doesn't seem to be related to being cold, since it comes on suddenly and she is indoors and properly dressed. As soon as she finishes vomitting, she is fine- happy and back to her normal self.

We recently changed the formula she gets overnight. We used to use 3 cans of pediasure. Now we are using 2 cans and one box of Resource Just for Kids which is 1.5 Cal. I thought at first that the extra calories overnight were just too much for her, or that something in the new stuff just doesn't agree with her. But, it doesn't happen every day. It happened last Monday, Friday, and then again today (Monday).

It certainly doesn't seem to be viral, like a flu-bug, since it comes and goes so sproadically. It's not the result of crying or coughing...I just don't get it.

I HATE the idea that she is losing all those calories, especially since she has been a real STINKER about eating during the day lately.

I have a call in to our cf dietician, but I'm open to all suggestions from the experts - YOU!

Any and all ideas welcome!

hmm....I honestly have no idea what to tell u. Maybe you can change back to the old formula just to see what happens, there might be something in the new formula she cant handle. Maybe she is getting too much food at once, like being too full. I know when I get too full, I can vomit quite easily. Not too sure about the shivers, could be just the way her body reacts to her getting ready to vomit. I have had the shivers before vomitting before, but not uncontrollable. It's a good thing you put in a call to ur CF Dietician, maybe they can tell u more. I hope she gets feeling better soon. Please, keep us updated <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">.

Maggie sometimes gets that shiver thing before she poops, wierd I know. She's not done it and thrown up. Maybe she needs more enzymes for the night feeds? Just a thought. I'm thinking even Maggie's might need to be upped, cause her poops are getting really big, scary when your 4 year old clogs the toilet. TMI
