Rash

Hi All!
My son is taking bacrim and rifampin because he cultured MRSA. He has been taking them for on week and he woke up this morning covered in a rash-all over his face, back, buttocks arms. It is worst on his face and buttocks. He says it is itchy and I gave him benadryl. Could he be allergic to the antibiotics and why has it taken a week to show up? I would think that he would start a rash almost immediately if he was allergic.
I also am hoping this rash is not related to the MRSA?
Anyone had a similar experience to this?
Thanks for your help.

I had an allergic reaction to Bactrim about 13yrs ago, and it didn't show up until I'd been on the med for about 10 days. It was a bad reaction requiring treatment in the ER and home followup with steroids to get under control. I would personally recommend getting in touch with his dr asap and keeping up with the Benadryl... I hope he is OK.

My daughter did get a rash w/ Bactrum, just in the diaper area though, she was given a topical ointment called chloestramine (sp?). I would definately call the doctor though with a rash that extensive. Good luck...

Thanks for your replies. Called the DR. and waiting to hear back. His rash got a lot worse-looks like sunburn on his face and had red splotches and dots all over-worse on his buttocks too. I keep giving him benadryl but he says it doesn't itch. I don't believe him (he has a high pain tolerance). I'll let you know what I hear.
