I just received a letter today (saturday) from our CF clinic about a clinical trial that was done in Canada that researchers unexpectedly found higher levels of phthalates in the urine of children with CF taking pancreatic enzymes. They're saying it can be harmful to people's health. Is this new? and does anyone out there know what's going on? Anybody else get this "notice?"

We got this about a week ago as well. It said that its only some kinds of enzymes (but didn't mention which) and urged us to continue giving enzymes as they felt the good outweighed the risk. I'd LOVE more info on this as well.

We got the letter too, a couple of days ago. If you go to the CFF website there is more information and a link to the CDC to explain more about it. We go to the CF clinic on the 15th so I'm going to ask more about it then.

I've been reading about this via a couple other yahoo cf support groups and on one site it's been said that the only enzyme that does not contain phthalates is Pancrease MT. Someone also mentioned that Chlorella binds to the phthalates and it's removed form the body somehow.

I do remember quite a while back someone on this site posted about loving the Naked Green Machine juice, which is my sons favorite juice. They commented that it just made them feel great after drinking it, gave them a boost. I know my son loves it so I bought some powdered super green food and have been adding it to his smoothies. I wonder if there's any connection....I hope the chlorella has been removing those Phthalates anyway!

There has been quite a discussion about phthalates and it's affects on the reproductive system, it's use in the tubing used for our nebulizers, autistic children etc.
