Hey guys...

I have a quick question for anyone who might know what im talking about. I have done in the past a homemade Nasal saline spray. You simply use water and Kosher or Pickling salt. I have not used it in a few months, but since I have been in the schools teaching have noticed that my nose gets very dry and I'm somewhat congested. My doctor suggests this every time I am for a study visit, and I tell them I iused it as needed, so they think I have the recipe. The only problem is, I used to have the recipe on my college email and now that I'm done with school, I dont have that email anymore...so I dont have the recipe.

So my question is does anyone know the exact concentration of Kosher salt to water (and I know there is baking soda too)?

I sure do. The recipie I have calls for one quart of water, two to three heaping teaspoons of kosher salt (depending on how much you can tolerate), and one teaspoon of baking soda. Then stir it up. It also says to discard any unused solution after one week.

Hope that helps!

I am so interested to find out how to do this. I suffer very badly with sinus prolems. I have been put on Amoxycillian 500mgx3 a day, taking sudafed, nasal spray. If you can teach how to do your method I would appreciate it PLEASE

Ohhh thank you so much, Lisa!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Im going to try it tonight!

Sunflower- As for using the spray, usually I did it twice a day, once in the AM and once in the PM right before bed. Then I would let it drip out and blow all that junk out of my nose. Sometimes it also made me cough stuff up too, which is good for us as we all know. Your supposed to try and squirt it way to the back of your nose and up using one of those little Bulb things (to remove the boogers from babies noses). Its called a nasal aspirator and you can get that at any drug store. Its not a drug, so thats good, and if you make the solution, I believe you have to put it in a glass jar. Then when you go to use it put enough in a smaller container, then fill up the nasal aspirator and squirt away. And like Lisa said, you have to get rid of it at the end of a week, and make more. Its supposed to really help keeping the germs out of your nose too, so less infections. They say you can use it as often as you want, but not more than like three times a day, i believe.

hey guys-I also do the saline nasal washes. I use a water pik (the kind you use to clean your teeth) with a special attachment. I make the saline with sea salt and baking soda. I have seen the benefit of using the saline nasal washes-it keeps those membranes moist, cuts down on infections, and lengthens the time between sinus surgeries.

The special attachment is called the Grossan nasal irrigator-I purchased mine from Achoo Allergy.

The recipe I use is- one cup of lukewarm water-add 1/3 teaspoon of sea salt and a pinch of baking soda.
